Principal's Message - May 2025
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community,
April has been an incredibly busy and enriching month at Gloucester High School, filled with a diverse array of activities and achievements that highlight the talent, dedication, and spirit of the students and staff.
Our students have been actively engaged in a variety of learning experiences, both inside and outside the classroom. The Media Club showcased their journalistic skills with a heartfelt feature on Dollar the Therapy Dog, demonstrating the positive impact he has on our students. Gloucester’s math excellence was honoured by the OCDSB through participation in the creation of an “OCDSB Math In Action!” video, which will soon be available on OCDSB’s YouTube channel. GHS’s senior physics students applied their knowledge of physics and engineering skills during a Sphero Blueprint building workshop. The English and Languages departments have fostered global awareness and cultural understanding through visits from Indigenous community members and a field trip to the Byward Market for the grade 11 French Immersion Anthropology class. The ENL1W students participated in a Healthy Relationships Workshop Series, gaining valuable communication and conflict resolution skills.
Experiential learning continues to be a focus, with the Learn to Swim program underway. Our students also had the opportunity to connect with the broader community through visits to Parliament and City Hall. The arts have flourished, with senior art students exploring career paths at the National Art Gallery of Canada and Daphne Keevil-Harold's Media Arts class initiating an interactive mural project to spread joy and positivity throughout the school. Business students have also been giving back by training to help their peers with tax returns.
We've also been focused on post-secondary pathways. Gloucester hosted the Eastern Region College Panel, providing valuable information to grade 11 students. Graduating students received a Post-Secondary and Scholarship presentation, and we look forward to the Algonquin College Connections 2025 event. From April 14th to 24th, GHS welcomed eight Japanese exchange students. A Japanese Showcase was held on Wednesday, April 16th, for all participating students.
Thank you to all the staff, students, and families who have contributed to making this past month so vibrant. It is truly a privilege to witness the growth, creativity, and engagement within the Gloucester school community.
